Dr Constantine George Berbatis is an Australian of Greek origin. He was born on 23 February 1946 in Perth, Western Australia. He is the first son of George and Despina Berbatis who were pre-World War Two migrants to Australia from the islands of Evia and Mytilini. They were successful small business owners. Much of Con's early life was spent helping in his parent's food and beverage businesses. 

 

He is married to Rita, who he met whilst working in Melbourne through the Greek Professionals Association of Victoria committee. Con and Rita have one daughter Catherine. Catherine is a government solicitor in Sydney. Her husband Andrew is a property analyst at Charter Hall Ltd. 

 

Con is widely recognised and awarded in pharmacy research and academia. He is a former lecturer and researcher of Pharmacy at Curtin University in Western Australia, The University of Sydney and Monash University in Victoria.

 

His credentials in this field include a Doctor of Philosophy (Curtin), Master of Science (Sydney), a Bachelor of Pharmacy and a Bachelor of Science (UWA). He is a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Western Australia.

 

His varied business interests grew from acquiring and developing medical centres, shopping centres and hotels. 

 

For more than fifty years Con has been a leader in large community youth sporting, student and administrative bodies mainly in the Greek Australian communities across Australia. The George and Despina Berbatis Memorial Gymnasium at St Andrew's Independent School in Dianella, Western Australia was developed in honour of Con’s parents.
