Constantine "Con" George Berbatis - PhD, MSc (Syd), BSc, BPharm & FPS (WA)
Con Berbatis was born 23 February 1946 in Perth of Greek parents. He is a former lecturer and researcher of Pharmacy at Curtin University (Perth), the University of Sydney and Monash University (Melbourne). He has received national and state awards for his research. During the 1980's he was a national reporter on international pharmacy research and developments.
His achievements extend beyond pharmacy academia to clinical pharmacy research, commerce and community activism and philanthropy.
In commerce his achievements are both substantial and varied. During the 1970's he found success in co-developed medical centres, then subsequently retail centres, a range of accommodation and hospitality assets along with general commercial and residential properties. In recent years he has broadened its scope to invest in commercially innovative projects.
The development of Kardinya (2021) and Waterford Shopping (1990) centres have been retail highlights, and the acquisition and operation of three modern hostels in Perth followed, along with the redevelopments of Holiday Inn Perth City Centre (2009) and the New Esplanade Hotel, Port Hedland (2012).
Since the 1960s Con Berbatis has been active in large community youth sporting, student and administrative bodies mainly in the Greek Australian communities throughout the country. The George and Despina Berbatis Memorial Gymnasium at St Andrew's Grammar School in Dianella, Western Australia was developed by Con and his wife Rita in honour of his parents. Con and Rita are major benefactors of St Andrew's. He has also taken strong activist positions in the community on environmental issues and gender equality. Con was also a Board member of the Pharmaceutical Council in the 1980s. Since 2018 he has been a Trustee - and is currently Chair - of the Hellenic Community of Western Australia.
